Additionally, off-road driving—venturing off established roads and tracks—is illegal in Iceland and strictly forbidden. Violations can result in severe fines and even imprisonment. Specific roads like F88 and F894 (Öskjuleið), F249 (Þórsmörk), and F578 (Arnarvatnsvegur) are only passable with large 4x4 vehicles. Roads 550, 35, and 570, though not classified as F-roads, also require 4x4 vehicles for safe navigation.
